DESIGN PROJECT: PHASE 3 - THE RESERVE AT LAKE KEOWEE

Currently, a lot is going on at KCL-IDESIGN, LLC, but as always, I am continually grateful! However, I did come to the notion that I need to pour my heart and soul out through my posts. I see it as an avenue to share endless inspiration, whether through design, travel, personal, or business. Even though I love being an interior designer, there is so much more to me than meets the eye. Moreover, when I speak about my blessings, I exude extreme gratitude on how grateful and appreciative for the opportunities that are put in my path daily.

Also, I love the meaning behind the word gratitude, which states “the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness.” So, with having a creative mindset, it is only fair that I share with the world the fantastic experiences that I continually receive from the Greatest Designer Ever – God! With that said, one of the most significant projects of my career, which is The Reserve at Lake Keowee, has kelp me on my toes. Recently, I was on-site, and everything is coming together beautifully.

It is funny because, with this design project, I have made a lot of the final decisions, God knows that I have learned a thing or two about patience. Designing a custom-built home is on an entirely different level, which takes extreme patience. During this walk-through, as the client and I are going through different areas of the house to see the completed work, I am in total awe at the custom stairs (Photo 5). The bull-nosed tread resembles the bottom of an elegant evening gown flowing with a long-flared trail.

The custom stairway was designed, especially for the client. They extend to all levels.

Kimberly C. Lyons

Kimberly C. Lyons is the founder and principal interior designer of KCL-IDESIGN, LLC (Interior Design Studio). She has been slaying interiors since forever and refuses to be known as the norm when transforming spaces. With an intense passion for incorporating a wow factor to anything ordinary, Kimberly acknowledges that she is a rare breed, and enjoys splashing her signature touch throughout when designing.

However, she is incredibly obsessed with extremely bold colors, captivating art, unique decorative objects, modern architecture, and lives for going outside the box and breaking outdated design rules. The motivating words – I dare you – keeps her motivated and overcharged. Her passion for interior design comes from a deeply rooted philosophy, which is – designing from within; from the soul, and it is always about living, breathing, and loving interior design!

Besides being a crazed football chick who is also addicted to chocolate, Kimberly is a global traveler who adores modernism and is always inspired by the not so beautiful objects.

She lives accordingly by her motto: I live – breathe – love interior design.

DESIGN PROJECT: PHASE 1 - THE RESERVE AT LAKE KEOWEE

It is a beautiful day at KCL-IDESIGN, LLC, as usual. So, here’s the scoop. I am currently the principal interior designer over an extremely significant design project, which exhausts most of my time. Sometimes I can’t post, which gives me a sad face. However, my face quickly turns into a huge smile every time I realize the enjoyment and excitement this design project brings me.

Quick note: Introduced to the client at a trade show, hired on the spot, and the rest is history. Also, the images below were taken during the breaking ground phase.

The project is a custom-built home, which is located at the beautiful Reserve at Lake Keowee in South Carolina. The houses throughout this community are enormous, detailed, amazingly designed, extremely beautiful, and transcending. With my involvement with the project, I have had a blast selecting different materials, finishes, and preparing for the exterior, which is turning out fantastic by the way. However, I am a little anxious because I cannot wait until Phase one is complete to see the stunning outcome. Moreover, I am eagerly waiting to dive in and splash my signature touch on the interior as well.

I look back on when I first met the client and how we discussed many different styles as far as the exterior and interior of the house.

With that said, through all the challenges, I am flattered to have implemented what the client doubted early on. She had a vision but was not able to express it clearly. I listened, took hold of her words, and in doing this, the masterpiece is starting to evolve. I find it amazing, and here is why? I continually pat myself on the back because being an excellent listener is an essential asset for a designer. It helps to make a client’s vision for their home a reality. There is still a lot to accomplish, as this is a massive project, the client and I are delighted with the outcome so far.

The client is admiring the completed work since breaking-ground. I promised her that I would not capture her in any photos, but I could not resist. She is beyond adorable!

There is nothing more important than giving a client precisely what they envision. It does not matter if it is a revamp for one or two rooms, or a custom-built home, it is my job as a designer to make it become a reality. I have enjoyed seeing the growth of the project through the ups and downs that can come with any design project. There has been a lot going on during the first design phase, but the positives have outweighed the negatives. So, as I always say, sometimes you must break some design rules to give the client exactly what they want.

These massive stones were retrieved while digging. There is talk about creating an Eco-friendly fountain.

For me, breaking design rules is not only about being creative, but it is also about going beyond the call of duty. It requires thinking outside of the box, which in my book, is what great design is all about!
