CHANDELIER OBSESSION: TWO IS BETTER THAN ONE

Regardless of all the different types of lighting on the market, and there is a lot, I always find myself in trouble because chandeliers are one of my weaknesses. It is as if I fall into a deep urge to visualize and expect them to be in every room that I enter. I prefer to see more than one, and if there is only one, I question myself mentally, is their room for another? I laugh hysterically because this can be any place and at any time, whether I am in the country or while traveling in another country. However, I will say that with my travels outside of the United States, I understand why when designing most luxurious spaces, the choice is to incorporate pairing, and why it is a crucial element. I often find some great factors when pairing chandeliers.

  •  The can add symmetry.
  •  With correct placement, paired chandeliers can define a room from above and balance out the entire space.
  • It makes for great design, and the overall design scheme more simplified, especially when trying to combine different types of lighting.

The upside is that these beauties are unlimited as far as style, size, color, shape, texture, finish, and they can add character to any room. The downside is that the perception of paired chandeliers is not for everyone. However, I promise if the time is taken to change from one and opt for two, you will thank me – Promise!

Moreover, I cannot wait to do a post on designing with more than two Chandeliers, Yikes!! ;-)

MY ULTIMATE DECISION AS AN INTERIOR DESIGNER: ANOTHER DEGREE

I agree that it is noticeable from a quick glance over at KCL-IDESIGN, LLC blog, that there has not been any blogging for a while. Every once in a while I need time to brainstorm, and the fact of the matter is that I must take some time and brainstorm. I have so much going on throughout each day that one of the most important aspects of who I am as an interior designer is lost and thrown by the waste-side, which is blogging. Currently, I own a design studio, which specializes in residential design, and is my real passion. Also, I have been designing for years and feel somewhat comfortable in my life. I had to ask myself, is just being content good enough? I struggled with this question for a while and along came procrastination. Yes, procrastination, the ultimate time stealer. As I have already stated, even though I have been designing for years, I felt there was no need to reach higher with my education, and at other times I would ponder. I know and understand the importance of knowledge and how essential it is as an interior designer to continually achieve at a more significant level regardless of the credentials that I have already accomplished. However, about four-and-a-half years ago at a particular stage in my life, I felt that it was mandatory that I make a life-changing decision.

I wanted to dig deeper into the world of commercial, hospitality, and global design, So, I decided to acquire another degree. It was not easy because I found many reasons why I should sit still, but the reasons for not becoming comfortable and just being content help me make an accurate decision. I will say that running an interior design studio (projects, meetings, clients, deadlines, and all other aspects of business) along with personal, family, traveling, studying, and trying to balance everything out is no joke. However, I did it with dedication, strong will and determination, and my favorite word, perseverance. I felt as if I was depriving myself of sleep, but through it all, I felt overly energized. I think my body was going in one direction as far as yelling, "slow down girl," but my brain was like, I got this, and I know what the result will be once I get passed the silver-lining in the sky. Yes, my beyond-glamorous-styled pot of gold is waiting, and placed at the end of my bold and beautiful rainbow. So, to make a long story short, I walk in June of this year, which is June 18, 2018, and I must say that I am so beyond proud of myself for achieving another degree along with walking with honors for a high GPA.

Displayed below are examples of my work during different semesters while obtaining my Bachelors of Science in Interior Design.

Fabric Selection(s)

Important factor when dealing with commercial design or residential design.

I now understand that there are too many facets of interior design to be stuck in one frame of mind. I am that girl who is after my own heart. I love me some me, and I cannot thank myself enough for taking the time to realize that I am about to close, but at the same time, open another chapter in my life that was meant to be complete. God already had everything planned; I just needed to follow through and listen to my heart, which is what I did. I did just that, and now it is time to explore all my unlimited assets in the ever-changing world of interior design!

BEDROOM DESIGN: STATEMENT WALLS

Okay, first, let me start by addressing the fact that I am a crazed chick when it comes to statement walls. Regardless of what room a statement wall is displayed, they are so needed. In my case, the bedroom especially. However, when it comes to my bedroom, not just any statement wall will do. I need a dominant backdrop that will bring the entire space cohesively together. For me, the bedroom is considered my ultimate sanctuary. Once I open the door, everything that has weighed me down throughout the day such as hectic meetings, long day with clients, finishing up never-ending paperwork, or chasing after my two spoiled brats (Boston Terriers), whatever the case may be, it is all dropped and left outside. Once I close my bedroom door behind me and breathe, I relax and become at ease. My bedroom is my serene space. When people say, the kitchen is the heart of the home; I cannot relate. The bedroom is the heart of the home for me. Also, for all the people who know me, they will agree because cooking is not my passion. So yes, I am laughing hysterically right about now. Hehe!!!!

Check out the statement walls below. In asking hypothetically, if today is the day to make a change and add a statement wall in your bedroom, what would you incorporate to bring your space together cohesively?

Also, remember a statement wall can be whatever your heart desire. So get crazy creative with it!

This bedroom is so my style. I am girlie to the core, love anything dramatic, and purple is one of my favorite colors. Above all, balance is a must for my bedroom. OMG, the bench is to die for along with the headboard. As I stated, there is nothing like a backdrop that will make a dominant statement.

Black and white are timeless and classic. Always the perfect combination and contrast.

The backlighted headboard wall with dark wood circular pattern design shielded with a translucent Lucite panel.

Go bold, go orange!

There is nothing like a mirrored wall to make a statement. Besides, there should always be more than one beautiful view throughout a room.

I am obsessed with this statement wall because of the polished lime plaster with marble pigments, which has been sponged on to create a beautiful subtle finish.
