ACCENT SEATING: MINIMAL, SIMPLE, AND SUBTLE

Have you ever encountered a worn-down chair and needed to give it some much-needed love and tender care? I often encounter many, but this one caught my attention, and my eyes became fixed. My thoughts and ideas bombarded my brain. I calmed down, got myself together, and officially took possession of the cute little chair because other people seemed to have their eyes on what I would call my soon-to-be stylish masterpiece.

(Notation) During my internship in college, I had to stage various venues to create aesthetically pleasing and appealing living areas. One of the requirements was bringing objects back to life, such as chairs, and making them noticeable again. It was beyond exciting and so much fun because people would stop and wait for me to complete the rooms and then purchase every item in the setup.

However, I use the same techniques when dealing with clients as in this project. When the furniture frame is solid and of good quality, a different finish should become a priority, such as paint and a dominant and detailed fabric. The purpose is to make the piece intriguing, statement-making, and stand out within any space.

As a designer, I have many opinions regarding design philosophy. However, I cherish this one the most: "Having a deep understanding that the not-so-beautiful objects or spaces can be reinvented by an individual with a creative soul." —Kimberly C. Lyons.

Design Tip: Get creative and incorporate a statement-making contrast by going bold with the fabric details and subtle color with the chair frame, or vice versa. The reinvented accent chair was a project during my Habitat for Humanity Restore internship. To read more, CLICK THE LINK HERE!
