KCL-IDESIGN, LLC Philosophy: As a designer, I have many views when it comes to philosophy, but the one that I cherish the most is ‘Having a deep understanding that the not so beautiful objects or spaces can become reinvented by way of an individual with a creative soul’ – Kimberly C. Lyons

When it comes to reinventing furniture, I have a creative soul, and once my creative juices start to flow, the possibilities are beyond endless. With that said, I never take my gift for granted, which is from the Original and First Designer himself – God, whom I do know and understand designed everything. Yes, EVERYTHING! I must thank him daily for giving me an unsurpassable gift that I continually use to not only transform spaces but to transform whatever comes in my path. Also, even though my job is to create and design beautiful spaces that can change people’s lives, I do understand that the not so beautiful objects can be reinvented to show that regardless of time, which can bring drastic change, but also to acknowledge that the outward appearance can become renewed again.

‘Run-down, old, and unsightly furnishings or decorative objects that were once new, yes, the pieces that are often forgotten, I am always inspired and honored to reinvent’ - Kimberly C. Lyons

However, the bottom line is, there is nothing like a little love and tender care. So, when I came across this accent chair, which I know at some point was once sitting stylish and taking center stage somewhere, I became determined to do a complete face-lift. Moreover, from first sight, I felt that it was my duty to give new life and change the overall appearance. The transformation came by way of a subtle decorative coating and dominant fabric that would give way to a completely different look.

1.    Yikes, I found the perfect paint (decorative coating) and fabric. It was so fun and exciting!

2. Dismantled and thoroughly cleaned

3.    Re-tightened Chair Frame

4.    Recovered Worn-out Seat

5.    Transformation complete!

Design Tip: Get creative when choosing the perfect paint color/finish. The Reinvented Accent Chair was a project done for The Habitat for Humanity Restore, and therefore I used a decorative coating that was mixed wrong from a local paint store and donated.

Woohoo! My overall goal was to change all the characteristics of the chair and make sure that the contrast was subtle but gave way to a definite wow factor. I think I achieved what I set out to accomplish, and the result is beyond amazing!
