ARCHITECTURAL DETAIL: INTRICATE STAIRWAYS

I am beyond fascinated by anything dealing with architecture, and with modernism being my favorite, I am always interested in what will hit the market next. With that said, I have come to appreciate that within the realm of these impressive, massive, as well as dominant objects called structures, there are smaller architectural details that can be considered complex additions. When it comes to stairways, I prefer to use the word intricate because even though they are considered add-ons, I view them as a must-have enhancement within an interior. For me, they are visibly pleasing to my eyes.

Stairways can be designed in a variety of styles, sizes, shapes, finishes, and materials because the possibilities for comprising such complex forms is all about personal preference.

However, I am a bit extreme and over-the-top, and I am obsessed with objects that give way to an immediate wow factor. The design world is an ever-evolving environment, and there is no limit as far as design. Moreover, when it comes to deciding upon the perfect stairway, I can truly understand if one’s mind becomes blank. Do the research and make sure that when focusing on a significant architectural detail such as this, the result is what you have envisioned for your home because once in place it will become the ultimate architectural area.

Design Tip: The surrounding space within or around the stairway area should give way to either contrasting walls, unique decorative objects, and furnishings, as well as lighting, which will be the dominance behind lighting such an important detail.

Safety Tip: When incorporating the perfect stairway within your home, all safety precautions should be in place.

ARCHITECTURAL DETAIL: INCORPORATING EXPOSED DUCT-WORK

When it comes to interiors, I will never be a fan of anything ordinary or the norm because I see it as dull or lacking interest. However, a detail that is far from the normal, and that is exposed duct-work. I remember when this was considered an eyesore, and a no-no as far as being seen. OMG – for me, it was love at first sight. I was impressed and blown away by the look. Whether residential or commercial, it has always been considered amazingly beautiful! With that said, this is the perfect focal point that can add personality, character, and create a unique wow factor.

It should not be unexposed behind walls and in crawl spaces. There are way too many smart and creative design solutions that can be done with such a great architectural detail when dealing with layouts to make it become a part of the overall interior. Also, exposed duct-work has become a significant part of interiors, and it does not only have to perform great, but it can also look aesthetically amazing! So, whether using copper or steel pipes to make a compelling statement or bold colored pipes to stand out in an interior, there are countless ways to make exposed duck-work super chic in any space.

Keep in mind: It does not matter if one is going for industrial, modern, contemporary, transitional, or another style, by adding what I always call the perfect architectural detail can make a world of difference within any space.
