GLOBAL INTERIORS: STATEMENT-MAKING INTRICATE DETAILS

I am amazed that I still get exceptionally excited about intricate details. As a designer, it should be the norm for me by now. Sometimes, the subtlest detail can add such personality and character. Many times, the delicately complex can become understated. So, regardless of where I am or my surroundings, I pay close attention to the significant and tiny details. Over the years, I have learned that objects that may not seem as beautiful can give way to becoming the focal point in a room.

However, I love international travel because everything is more extreme, dominant, and bold. What I mean by this is that nothing is simple. Countries such as South Africa and Italy serve food with a unique style. Their architecture is colorful and ornate—the culture and lifestyle are lively, intense, and daring. Now, imagine how they design their interior surroundings. Trust me; I was in awe of their furniture, lighting, artwork, finishes, natural textures, different patterns, eye-catching color palettes, décor, and objects such as massive statues. Every room I walked into was extraordinarily statement-making.

I find global (international) interiors to be fun and exciting! Why? There are always curated pieces that will become conversation starters.

Inspirational nudge: One of my favorite places to grab inspiration is hotels (hospitality design). The first, second, third, and fourth photos are all interior walls, and the floor lamps, mirrored wall decor, and floor vases are oversized. So, remember, paint is not the only decorative wall option.

Above, glass interior wall panels.

The photo below is of a decorative floor. Is it not beyond gorgeous? As with interior walls, the same goes for choosing a type of flooring. There are many options.

Moreover, I became overwhelmed (in a good way) by the many mental notes I acquired in Italy and South Africa, which I brought back to incorporate into several design projects. I have used several color palettes from there, and they are striking.

Interior design brings happiness to my soul. It is beyond priceless!
