PROJECT OUTCOME: BOLD, DOMINANT, AND STATEMENT-MAKING
DESIGN PHILOSOPHY: My home's style says a lot about who I am, and therefore, I approach the design process with authenticity, originality, and an accurate reflection of who occupies the space.
Okay, whoever I have encountered over the years knows that my DNA is a mixture of intense, bold colors. However, it is hilarious because I get asked many questions about neutral palettes. In my defense, I have had to design a lot of them, and besides, as a designer, if I am dealing with a client who has no desire for anything extreme when dealing with color, it is my job to make sure that I give them precisely what they envision for their home. What can I say? It is my job, and I am damn good at it.
Moreover, as a designer, I cater to all, and I understand that everyone is not like me — Kimberly C. Lyons, who could not live comfortably in a house that is not screaming major drama! The main reason why I started Kimberly's Style is that it gives a more detailed look at who I am as a designer, the reality behind my authentic and personal interior surroundings, and how I live with dominant colors. I have posted several different areas within my home, but I must say that I am crazy in love with my dining room. I get overly excited when I have a project dealing with dining rooms because it is one of my favorite areas to transform.
Before/After Photo: Dining Room (painted and stenciled walls).
When I applied the paint to all the interior walls and the ceiling, which I did lighter to create a slight contrast, I didn't feel an immediate statement as I walked past the room. Hmmm, something was still missing. So, I decided to incorporate acanthus leaves. It was beyond time-consuming, but so worth it. With the backdrop complete, hardwood floors installed, and a new light fixture, my vision was finally starting to come alive. The intricate details consist of more than the acanthus leaves — detailed rope aligns the wainscoting with tassels that hang freely at the end of each opening to give way to a finished look.
Overall, with my dining room, I was looking for dominance. I adore purple and orange, so it was easy to mix each color because they are stunning.

I am pleased with my colorful dining room after incorporating the intricate details and objects that complete the space.
Design Tip:
- When designing interior spaces, do not copy what is in magazines or seen on television.
- Go for the creative aspects that flow freely within your mind.
- Refrain from listening to what is necessarily considered a good or bad design.
- What is usually not seen makes for what I call great design!
Spiked table lamps and shimmering vases create a stylish and cohesive vibe.
