MBD: RUSTIC STYLE ALONG WITH A BIT MORE

MBD (Mood Board Drama) featuring a Rustic style along with a bit more.

Yikes, is it Friday here already? Geesh, time does not wait for no one — a prime example of why I refuse to procrastinate. Even though I will be preparing for several photoshoots this weekend, I'm still excited! So, maybe it is not considered actual quality time for me, but, either way, I cannot go wrong because I will be doing what I genuinely love and passionate about, which is designing!

With that said, sometimes while brainstorming on unique ideas for a specific design project, I often-times include more than one style. In doing this, I make sure that a client’s preferred choice is first and foremost, but I also leave room to show other alternatives, which can provide additional options when a client is indecisive between one or more styles.

With the interior below, even though the chandelier is screaming rustic, there is a hint of modern and contemporary details as well.

Design Tip: When there are mixed styles, they can complement each other.

Along with simple decorative objects and furniture, a floor lamp, bold color, and a dominant area rug, when all elements are combined, each brings the room together cohesively.

She has been slaying interiors since forever and refuses to partake of what is known as the norm when transforming spaces. With an intense passion for incorporating a wow factor to anything ordinary, Kimberly acknowledges, that she is recognized as a rare breed while splashing her signature touch when designing, which is considered extremely fun and exciting! However, besides being incredibly obsessed with extreme bold colors, captivating art, unique decorative objects, modern architecture, and the motivating phrase – “I dare you,” this overcharged and crazed interior designer lives for going outside the box and is not afraid to break irrelevant design rules. Her extraordinary obsessed passion for interior design comes from a deeply rooted philosophy, which is designing from within; from the soul, and it is always about living, breathing, and loving interior design!

Kimberly is addicted to chocolate, obsessed shopaholic, laughs hysterically just because, global traveler, football-crazed chick, head-over-heels in love with modernism, and is always inspired by the not so beautiful objects.

DESIGN PROJECT: LIVING ROOM REVAMP

At KCL-IDESIGN, LLC there is always a decorative coating about to be splashed somewhere, and yes, I am the principal interior designer who gets to splash, splash, and more splash! However, with this living room, I needed a color palette that would give way to an immediate statement, and while doing so, also create a subtle contrast. During the color consultation, I noticed that certain colors were mentioned several times throughout the conversation. My goal was to give the clients precisely what they desired, as well as envisioned. I know and understand the importance of incorporating a client’s style. So, I made sure to do exactly just that because it is always about the client.

The standing ovation goes to green and orange! Both became the chosen colors for the interior walls. “Whew, there are a billion and one choices to choose from when dealing with greens and oranges, and yikes, I had to find the perfect one of each.” I will admit it was beyond fun and exciting, and I was more than ready to revamp the BLAND living room! With the space being tiny and the fireplace as the focal point, the original furniture arrangement did not change. Blocking the entrance to the downstairs bedroom and kitchen was not an option. All pathways needed to stay open for easy access and maneuvering.

With both the color palette and furniture placement solidified, it was time to create an entirely different living room. The exciting part about working with limited space and an existing furniture layout is that I get my chance to make a drastic before and after. In knowing this, my creative juices kick in, and when they do, I always capture an extraordinary look, feel, and vibe. The living room revamp was achieved!

Design Project: Corgi Drive Residence – Living Room Revamp

Project Goal: Incorporate the clients’ favorite colors

Project Outcome: The subtle interior wall colors create the perfect contrast, along with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The clients are incredibly pleased with their stylish living room.

THROUGH THE EYES OF A DESIGNER: NEW ORLEANS STYLE

Okay, so I am a traveling chick reminiscing about a past trip. Being a global traveler that I am, I decided to take one of my typical Girls Trip to New Orleans, which was in 2015. However, it was my first time exploring this fantastic city, and I must admit that I had a super great time! With that said, whether I am traveling with my girls, business purposes or whatever the case may be, I am going to take a ton of pictures. As a designer, I understand and acknowledge that inspiration is available to me wherever I go. I not only pay attention to the beauty that usually surrounds me, but I pay attention to the not so attractive objects as well because sometimes beauty can be found there as well. Also, I make sure that I capture what I cannot physically touch, such as the fantastic sky!

New Orleans, which is a Louisiana city, is known for its energetic nightlife, live-music scene, out of this world cuisine, which is from a history dealing with a variety of cultures such as French, African, and American. Oh, and I can’t leave out The Mardi Gras, street parties, along with costumed parades, and OMG, the list can go on for miles. I enjoyed the bold and colorful architecture, eye-catching court-yards, and lighting galleries, along with the unlimited intricate details that come with every inch of this extraordinary and captivating place. Moreover, I am so happy because I was able to capture some fantastic pictures, and even when I look back at them now, I relive my trip all over again.

New Orleans architecture can range from Creole Cottages (1790-1850), American (1820-1850) and Creole Townhouses (1788-mid-1800s), Raised Center-Hall Cottages (1803-1870), Shotgun Houses (1850-1910), Double-Gallery Houses (1820-1850), and more. I was so flabbergasted with the American and Creole Townhouses.

Amazing lighting gallery.

Courtyards are everywhere in New Orleans.

Yes, I was relaxing on-board the Natchez, and admiring the view.

I had a blast on Bourbon Street, but what happens in New Orleans, stays in New Orleans.

I will never be able to say enough about 'The Crescent City’ or 'The Big Easy' known as New Orleans. Oh, and by the way, I will be there again in July for The Essence Festival 2019, which is around the corner. I am incredibly excited knowing that I will be back in this unforgettable city yet again!
