KCL-IDESIGN, LLC DESIGN PHILOSOPHY: INVITING LIVING ROOMS

‘Aesthetically pleasing interiors that are well-designed to me are always inviting’ – Kimberly C. Lyons

With interiors that have a spacious floor plan, I tend to find them open, as well as inviting. It is as if a cohesive vibe flows throughout because there are not as many interior walls in place to break up the overall space. I genuinely enjoy being able to lounge in one room and see the fantastic view of another. Awe, the feeling of being surrounded by well-designed interiors is why I enjoy designing them. Hey, what can I say? It is the designer in me!

With that said, when I see an attractive interior with a specific color palette, unique decorative objects, statement-making artwork, defined architectural details, along with the necessity of furnishing, flooring, lighting, and the correct elements and principles of design in place, to me, they are more pleasing to my eyes. I am passionate about making sure everything within a space is considered a complement to the other. However, above all, there must be a real purpose behind the designed room and much-needed functionality as well.

The interiors below are not only inviting but detailed. There are character and appeal, which makes each space overwhelmingly stylish. Moreover, I am crazy obsessed when there is color in place. Furthermore, I think a view from different directions is what makes any room open, as well as inviting.

ESSENCE FESTIVAL 2019: DARE 2 CARE GIRLS TRIP

Travel Destination: New Orleans

Here I come, NOLA!

Yikes, I am at it again! Yes – it has been too long, and it is time for another trip, and not just any trip. OMG, the ultimate GIRLS TRIP! I have been working a lot, and I have not had time to get my travel agenda together as I usually do, but that is about to change. I know for a chick that enjoys different cultures and mainly going out of the country, there is nothing like a fresh breather for the soul. With that said, I am on my way to New Orleans for the 25th Essence Festival. OMG, OMG, and OMG – I am so beyond excited because even though I have been to this fantastic city, and I promise it is the best place to visit for fun, parties, events, and culture, I have never been to the Essence Festival. However, starting on July 4th, which is today, all that is about to change!

I will officially arrive in New Orleans at approximately 7:50 PM.

First stop will be at Le Pavillon Hotel to check-in and get ready for the Fire & Ice Essence Festival 25th Anniversary Kick-Off Party!

Okay, let me clear one thing up! When my girlfriends and I went to see the movie Girls Trip, EACH ONE had to let me know beforehand which girl from the movie is me. Primarily, Norma J. Hicks, who is known for trying to be everybody’s mother. So, I guess that makes her THE MOM, and I confess - Yes, I am THE WILD ONE! As if I didn’t already know. I get it, and I got it. Geesh!

However, before the Ultimate Girls Trip starts, a quick run-down because I hear this is one of the largest annual celebrations in the Black culture, which includes film, television, beauty, fashion, community, activism, politics, and so much more. How in the hell have I missed this for so long? Also, I here Loni Love is hosting, and the lineup is extraordinarily incredible! Well, I would prefer to see Chris Brown on the list, but I will hush and be grateful because there will be more than 80 artists who will make their presence across the Main Stage or Super Lounges.

So, I guess I will be okay even though my favorite male artist will not be one of this year’s performers.

Moreover, I hear that Michelle Obama will be on the main stage at 6 PM in the Superdome on Saturday – July 6th, 2019

Besides exploring what New Orleans has to offer during my stay, here is my agenda and some of the activities that I will be attending, as well as enjoying every single minute.

MBD: RUSTIC STYLE ALONG WITH A BIT MORE

MBD (Mood Board Drama) featuring Rustic style along with a bit more.

Yikes, is it Friday here already? Geesh, time does not wait for no one — a prime example of why I refuse to procrastinate. Even though I will be preparing for a photo shoot this weekend, I'm still excited! So, what if it is not what I call the average quality time for me, but, either way, I cannot go wrong because I will be doing what I genuinely love and passionate about, which is designing!

With that said, sometimes while brainstorming on unique ideas for a specific design project, I often-times include more than one style. In doing this, I make sure that a client's preferred choice is first and foremost, but I also leave room to show other alternatives, which can provide additional options when a client is indecisive between one or more styles.

With the interior below, even though the chandelier is screaming rustic, there is a hint of modern and contemporary details as well.

Design Tip: When several styles are mixed, they become a complement to each other.

When all elements are combined, each brings the room together cohesively – as can be seen above with simple decorative objects and furniture, a floor lamp, bold color, and a dominant area rug.
