DESIGN PROJECT: PHASE 4 - THE RESERVE AT LAKE KEOWEE

I always get overly excited when I am working on a design project that I consider complexed. As with this design project, which is indeed incredibly detailed, but it is designed specifically for the homeowner by a hired architect. The incredible part about this type of project is that everything from the exterior to the interior caters to the owner’s specifications. On the other hand, with a predesigned plan, the client would not be involved, or she would be constrained.  Also, the desired land was bought first by the client before the architectural project was in place. OMG, some of the features in this house are beyond amazing. Can I get an elevator at my home, please? With that said, my primary purpose on-site was to discuss the official color palette and do a walk-through with the client.

I did a quick look throughout the surroundings because this was my assurance that everything is up to par. As a designer, this has always been a top priority when other professionals are on-site because with multiple projects being worked on, keeping track of each one is essential. However, during the walk-through, I couldn’t help but admire the many features that I implemented throughout the different phases, and to see each displayed is on a whole other level. I mean, I was beyond googly-eyed. Seriously, I was genuinely googly-eyed! The client and I were able to find a quiet place to look over some color swatches. Also, we discussed other factors that will soon go into effect before the completion of the project. Both of us are beyond pleased with what we see and are looking forward to the final masterpiece.

Moreover, every project that I tackle, as the principal designer, I truly enjoy. Each one gives way to individualized experiences that are genuinely beyond amazing! Furthermore, what makes this project so unique and special is the fact that I have been with the client from day one. There have been individuals who started with me on day one that is no longer around because of not giving the client what she envisions for her home. The main reason why I am still here is that it is always about the client and never the designer. As the principal designer, I have had significant input in how the exterior and interior look for this house.

Okay, and yes, I pat myself on the back because I listened carefully to my client. Her vision is about to become not only a reality but a beautiful reality as well. Until then, stay tuned!

The double-sided fireplace is seen on the 2nd and 3rd floors, but not on the 1st floor. It has cut-outs that will hold floating glass shelves with light beneath. The photo below is the fireplace on the opposite side.

The decorative column will hold floating shelves as well with light beneath. Artifacts will be on display.

All interior doors will be painted to expose the circular detail, which will create an astonishing contrast.

The bathroom Suite has marble walls and flooring, along with other complementary tiles to create a subtle wow effect.

The other five bathrooms will have marble and complementary tile, as well.

TTEOAD: NOLA, YOU WERE AMAZING!

THROUGH THE EYES OF A DESIGNER. . .

So, it has been a couple of months since my return from NOLA, and I must relive for a moment because OMG, I had a blast at the 25th Essence Festival. I do know that there probably have been a million stories already posted, but the good thing about traveling is that everyone’s adventure and experiences are different. Even though it was my first time going to this extraordinary event, I was prepared to explore everything that was on my itinerary and more, and trust – there was not going to be any disappointments.

HOLD UP – WAIT JUST ONE MINUTE because I did become a little disappointed when I finally boarded after a one-hour layover to be told that I had to exit the plane for what turned into a six-hour delay. What in the world? With God’s continued help on learning to be patient, I managed and survived. Besides, hyper as I am, I occupied my time, and before I knew it, I was ready to board. With that said, I was more than prepared to enjoy myself, and boy was I right because it turned out to be the ultimate girls’ trip!

Okay, so after I arrived at the lovely Le Pavillon Hotel, which is amazingly beautiful, there was no time for me to lounge or chill because of my flight delay. However, after checking in, I hopped in the shower, got super cute, and was ready to hit the exciting streets of New Orleans. It was time to have some major fun!

I got my weekend started, and of course, being VIP, I decided to check out the Fire & Ice Essence Festival Kick-off Party with DJ Kid Capri, and boy was it rocking! As I stated earlier, even though my itinerary was full for the duration of my trip, I made sure that I dabbled in other activities as well. From going to an All White Converse Party, Hangover Brunch, Karaoke and Kocktails Midday Day Party, and as the festivities continued, I also attended three nights at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, which featured a variety of non-stop performances and celebrity guests, and Loni Love hosted this.

What can I say? It was Exciting, Inspirational, Motivating, Up-Lifting, and most of all – Entertaining! I was glad to see Michelle Obama laughing it up with us (her audience) and enjoying the cultural moment that will become a beautiful part of history. There is so much to do, and there is no way to capture it in such a short time. NOLA, I will be back, but in the meantime - whether the architecture, nightlife, food, or entertainment, I am always excited to be part of such an extraordinary culture!

By the way, I strength train, so my trainer told me to enjoy myself, and not stress out about what I consume as far as food. Without further due, I came across some fried ribs – GOOD Googly Goo, what have I been missing? Also, I am not a burger girl, never have been, but this chief prepared one for me, and all I could say was HALLELUJAH!

After I arrived home from my trip, I sent up a prayer because of the flooding that had taken place. New Orleans has made it through several catastrophes, and you made it through this one as well. God is so beyond amazing!

TTEOAD: JAMAICA IS ONE LOVE

THROUGH THE EYES OF A DESIGNER. . .

I fell in love with Jamaica when I visited. Yes, I sure did. When I took my first trip to this fantastic Caribbean island nation, I decided that life is way too short, and there is so much more to see other than the place I usually call home. I can happily say that Jamaica became home, which is known for adding people to their family of 'one love.' Their motto, 'Out of Many, One People' is a true statement. I truly experienced this first-hand because the overall culture and spirit of their hospitality, humbleness, smiling faces, along with their friendliness, spoke in volumes.

These guys were terrific during one of my tours. If I could, I would listen to them talk all day.

Kimberly C. Lyons_KCL-IDESIGN, LLC_Jamaica 2010 (201).JPG

We were all excited on this tour. We were going to Bob Marley's home, but as you can see, I have my eyes on the driver who is swinging around some high cliffs. If I didn't know any better, I thought I was on a roller coaster at Six Flags – Geesh!

Kimberly C. Lyons_KCL-IDESIGN, LLC_Jamaica 2010 (150).JPG

The island is bursting with color, which could be seen by the architecture, towering mountain cliffs, beautiful tropical jungles, original artwork – primarily through Graffiti, and a sea that is the perfection of sky blue. No one should ignore the talent that has come from Jamaica throughout the centuries, even to this day. However, the artistic skill varies by styles, techniques, but the overall solid foundation of unique talents throughout Jamaica give way to their colors, which are influenced by Africa, Europe, and America.

I can't leave out all the friendly people I met, the cuisine, music, and dance! Yikes, at one point, I thought I shook my hip out of place.

Kimberly C. Lyons_KCL-IDESIGN, LLC_Jamaica 2010 (278).JPG

Yes, of course, I had to give the chief my undivided attention while he is preparing my meal.

The most memorable moment was spending time at Bob Marley's Home. The experience to see his childhood bedroom and sit on his bed – OMG, beyond amazing! To tour his estate brought a sense of anger and happiness. The opportunity to relive, as well as see and hear the truth about his life, it was transcending. At the end of the Bob Marley Tour, I walked away smiling, feeling happy and renewed. He was a great man with a heart and soul for doing what was right.

'Through extensive traveling, I have learned that it is a necessary asset for my Body, my Mind, my Heart, and my Soul '– Kimberly
