KCL-IDESIGN, LLC DESIGN PHILOSOPHY: RADIANT RED

RED adaptable, statement-making, dramatic, and definite traffic stopper. In giving my opinion, I do believe that sometimes a well-designed space can be created when there is a need to go outside the box of what is commonly known as good design!

I'm obsessed with red – it is my favorite color before yellow, which is my second favorite color. With that said, I tend to hear much talk about how it takes courage to use a decorative coating or wallpaper in the boldest shades such as red. I can't entirely agree. For me, it is genuinely about using the correct amount. Not having enough will not give way to an immediate statement and too much for someone who is not sure about such a bold color can become a bit overwhelmed. Even though most people associate red as the color of passion, to me – it screams drama and is the perfect accent for not so bright colors.

When we built our house, I knew beforehand that I was going to combine this radiant and enticing color with something extraordinary, and that is what I did. However, I will reveal that room later. Moreover, with so many shades of red, which can go with any style, it would be darn near impossible not to create some major drama. As a designer, I block out all negative criticism such as – red is not for the faint of heart or do not use red in a dining room. Really? I never get hyped about design trends because I know they will fade over time, and return. So, when choosing a shade of red to incorporate, trust, and believe – anything is possible with a creative mindset.

Design Tip: Red does not have to be the dominant color within a room or used on all interior walls. It can become a dramatic focal point when used as an accent wall. Also, it is a great choice to warm up large areas. It can be used with neutrals for enhancement or combine with gold to create a decadent effect.

KCL-IDESIGN, LLC DESIGN PHILOSOPHY: INVITING LIVING ROOMS

‘Aesthetically pleasing interiors that are well-designed to me are always inviting’ – Kimberly C. Lyons

With interiors that have a spacious floor plan, I tend to find them open, as well as inviting. It is as if a cohesive vibe flows throughout because there are not as many interior walls in place to break up the overall space. I genuinely enjoy being able to lounge in one room and see the fantastic view of another. Awe, the feeling of being surrounded by well-designed interiors is why I enjoy designing them. Hey, what can I say? It is the designer in me!

With that said, when I see an attractive interior with a specific color palette, unique decorative objects, statement-making architectural details, along with the necessity of furnishing, flooring, lighting, and the correct elements and principles of design in place, to me, they are more pleasing to my eyes. I am passionate about making sure everything within a space is considered a complement to the other. However, above all, there must be a real purpose behind the designed room and much-needed functionality as well.

The interiors below are not only inviting but detailed. There are character and appeal, which makes each space overwhelmingly stylish. Moreover, I am crazy obsessed when color is incorporated. Furthermore, the view from different directions is what makes the rooms open, as well as inviting.

MBD: RUSTIC STYLE AND A BIT MORE

MBD (Mood Board Drama) featuring Rustic style and a bit more.

Yikes, is Friday here already? Geesh, time does not wait for no one — a prime example of why I refuse to procrastinate. Even though I will be preparing for a photoshoot this weekend, I'm still excited! So, what if it is not what I call the average quality time. Either way, I cannot go wrong because I will be doing what I genuinely love and passionate about, which is designing!

With that said, sometimes while brainstorming on unique ideas for a specific design project, I often-times include more than one style. In doing this, I always make sure that the client's preferred choice is first and foremost, but I also leave room to show other alternatives, which can provide additional options when a client is indecisive between one or more styles.

Even though the chandelier is screaming rustic, there is also a hint of modern and contemporary details as well.

Design Tip: When mixing more than one style, if done correctly, they can become a complement to each other.

When all elements are combined, each brings the room together cohesively – as can be seen above with simple decorative objects and furniture, a floor lamp, bold color, and a dominant area rug.
