DESIGN PROJECT: CORGI DRIVE RESIDENCE

Again, it is another colorful day at KCL-IDESIGN, LLC, and as I usually say, you can’t go wrong when applying the most fantastic decorative coating in the world. So, for all the amazing people who know me, it will only take about a half of a second to scream the answer to what I am referring to, which is PAINT! However, when I talk about color, I prefer to create an accurate representation of a before and after. If a color is close to what is already on the existing walls, this will display very little difference.

While working on a design project for a client, during the initial consultation, she made it clear that color did not intimidate her. Being able to create this type of effect was one of the main reasons why I accepted the project because I enjoy looking at the impact it has within spaces. Moreover, being beyond obsessed with such a unique decorative coating makes my job so much more fun and exciting! I go insane when I know that I am going to be hanging out at my favorite paint stores. OMG, shuffling through newly stocked swatches, talking to vendors about the latest trends and eagerly contemplating on what colors I will combine is crazy fun!

Typically, when I work with color, at times, I will give the client at least three different palettes to choose from, and again, this can depend on the client and the overall design project. I have learned that having too many selections can become a bit confusing and not having enough to explore within the desired preference can potentially become a problem as well. However, the client was not afraid of using anything extreme and was delighted with the final selection. So please, do not get it twisted, color is not for everyone, but OMG, it sure is beyond transcending!

Design Project: Corgi Drive Residence – Dining Room

Project Goal: Select a color that would ultimately change the look and feel of the client's existing dining room and enhance the objects within the space.

Project Outcome: The bold walls add character, as well as give way to an open and inviting atmosphere. By the way, the client was pleased with her newly designed dining room.

She has been slaying interiors since forever and refuses to partake of what is known as the norm when transforming spaces. With an intense passion for incorporating a wow factor to anything ordinary, Kimberly acknowledges, that she is recognized as a rare breed while splashing her signature touch when designing, which is considered extremely fun and exciting! However, besides being incredibly obsessed with extreme bold colors, captivating art, unique decorative objects, modern architecture, and the motivating phrase – “I dare you,” this overcharged and crazed interior designer lives for going outside the box and is not afraid to break irrelevant design rules. Her extraordinary obsessed passion for interior design comes from a deeply rooted philosophy, which is designing from within; from the soul, and it is always about living, breathing, and loving interior design!

Kimberly is addicted to chocolate, obsessed shopaholic, laughs hysterically just because, global traveler, football-crazed chick, head-over-heels in love with modernism, and is always inspired by the not so beautiful objects.

MUST HAVE FURNITURE: CONSOLE TABLES

Okay, now, I am in LOL mode because it is beyond crazy how I am fascinated with furniture design. Also, if you are wondering why I am Laughing Out Loud, it is because I tend to get overly excited when I read how specific pieces first originated and continue to change through the years from their original era It is incredible to see that even though there is change, the meaning behind the unique design is still there. So even as a designer, I am excited! However, while getting my Bachelor of Science – Interior Design, it was evident that I became even more fascinated with furniture design.

Moreover, two classes kept me inspired from start to finish, which was History of Architecture Interiors & Furniture I and History of Architecture Interiors & Furniture II. Both courses received my undivided attention. I was intrigued by the smallest detail. I expanded my knowledge and dug deeper into where different pieces originated from, as well as the individual behind the creative designs. Even though I had ample materials provided within the class, I did some research and found the Third Edition, Dictionary of Furniture by Charles Boyce (foreword by Joseph T. Butler).

This book is indeed AMAZING! It has expanded my knowledge of furniture, which is why I now see how specific pieces stand out more within a room. With that said, console tables are the first on my must-have list. I have several of these beauties throughout my home, which is where I display some of my favorite decorative objects from my travels such as South Africa, Italy, and Jamaica. A console table can add character, interest, appeal, as well as enhance the beautiful décor that is upon them.

Design Tip: Use books to add variations of height, and place décor atop, combine a variety of colors to create a contrast, texture is a must, and don’t forget to add some stylish table lamps because there is nothing more exciting than showing off a well-dressed console table.

Knowledgeable Notation: The Console Table sole purpose was designed to be fixed to a wall and supported only by front legs. It was developed in the late 17th century and became very popular throughout the 18th century.
