DETAILED AND DOMINANT: INCORPORATING STRIPES

When it comes to working on a design project that requires graphics, I can get a little overly excited. With that said, one of my favorite ways to use graphics is with stripes. Whether traditional, modern, contemporary, or whatever the case may be, it can quickly help enhance a space. I cannot forget to mention the choice of going horizontal or vertical, leaves the possibilities of endless open. Either one will make for a stylish focal wall. Also, no rule says you should have one without the other. I love the fact that stripes can also be diagonal. Pretty cool, huh?

This dynamic and detailed graphic will not only change the look, vibe, and atmosphere of a room, but can magically reshape and transform through the illusion of fuller, more height, or just a playful atmosphere. Stripes are incredibly versatile. From elegant, tone-on-tone, classic, a unique color palette, bright and bold, or subtle and straightforward. Oh, and by the way, there is another additional bonus – they mix perfectly with florals, solids, patterns, which validate they can go just about anywhere.

Going Vertical or Horizontal?

  • Vertical create the illusion of height, which in return will make ceilings appear higher than they are.

  • Tone-on-Tone such as matte, glossy, or a version of the same color creates a more classic vibe.

  • Bright and bold colors create a perfect contrast.

  • Horizontal is more modern but tend to make rooms feel a bit wider. They can be playful, bold, and fun.

Design Tips: Just in case there is a little intimidation with using stripes in a vast space, try a small area such as a powder room, hallway, or foyer.

  • Stripes are graphic and can stand alone to make an impact. So, be careful not to clash. I love color, and colors that generally do not blend, if done right, any color can match. Once again, this is my opinion. As a designer, I do not limit or set boundaries on how the world thinks design should be. I was born to break design rules, and that is what I do.

  • With a more substantial room displaying stripes, I prefer wider. In a small room, I prefer thin, but not limited to using both.

  • To create a subtle technique, use flat and glossy stripes, which will add perceived depth, dimension, and not to mention a splash of character.

  • A mix of full and skinny stripes can be playful.

INTERIOR INSPIRATION: GETTING GRAPHIC

When it comes to making a statement by way of interior walls, I usually enjoy splashing my favorite decorative coating, which most people already know is paint, but I am also a super-huge fan of implementing graphics as well. Graphics are a cool way to spice of any room that is considered boring, bland or just Ugh! Even though they can be custom made, which is still relatively easy to apply, or by using dominant wallpaper, either one can create a beautiful and contrasting effect.

Below, each wallpaper has essential details that leave an immediate impact within each room. With that said, I am impressed when there is a backdrop to bring objects within a space cohesively together. However, I am obsessed with the drama behind anything detailed, will enhance, and give way to an intricate, but yet a bold wow factor!

Moreover, being a chick who admires extreme colors, when using a type of decorative feature such as wallpaper, it will do the trick when a client prefers wallpaper instead of paint.
