LIVING ROOM DESIGN: CONTEMPORARY FIREPLACES

I am amazed at how I continue to get all googly-eyed every time I see a fireplace. I am especially googly-eyed when contemporary and modern styles are combined. To use design to create through extraordinary architectural details, it is beyond stunning. Also, to put the chocolate icing on the cake (yes – I am beyond obsessed with chocolate), when certain features are designed to fit perfectly in well-designed spaces, they tend to become the ultimate focal point. My friends usually laugh when I say that my kitchen is not the heart of my home, but my cozy, warm, and inviting living room with the massive fireplace sure is.

Oh, how I love architectural details. Yikes, I get all excited!

While being decorative and functional, statement-making and dominant, cozy and warm, fireplaces give way to enhancing a space on an entirely different level. They add the much-needed character as well as create a unique vibe. So, whether traditional, modern, contemporary, farmhouse, transitional, or any other style, fireplaces make a room feel more than cozy and welcoming, they become a definite wow factor.

The possibilities are beyond endless when deciding to start fresh or updating an older fireplace. Choosing a style, size (large, medium, small or in between), finish or a specific kind such as open or closed, gas, wood-burning, electric, corn or wood pellet, the options are limitless.

Are you looking to update? Check out some great inspiration below to get those creative juices flowing.

Design Tip: A fireplace and television should work together and not become a distraction or competition.

The motivating words – I dare you – keeps her motivated and overcharged. Her passion for interior design comes from a deeply rooted philosophy, which is – designing from within; from the soul, and it is always about living, breathing, and loving interior design!

Besides being a crazed football chick who is also addicted to chocolate, Kimberly is a global traveler who adores modernism and is always inspired by the not so beautiful objects.

She lives accordingly by her motto: I live – breathe – love interior design.

ARCHITECTURAL DETAIL: INTRICATE STAIRWAYS

I am beyond fascinated by anything dealing with architecture, and with modernism being my favorite, I am always interested in what will hit the market next. With that said, I have come to appreciate that within the realm of these impressive, massive, as well as dominant objects called structures, there are smaller architectural details that can be considered complex additions. When it comes to stairways, I prefer to use the word intricate because even though they are considered add-ons, I view them as a must-have enhancement within an interior. For me, they are visibly pleasing to my eyes.

Stairways can be designed in a variety of styles, sizes, shapes, finishes, and materials because the possibilities for comprising such complex forms is all about personal preference.

However, I am a bit extreme and over-the-top, and I am obsessed with objects that give way to an immediate wow factor. The design world is an ever-changing environment, and there is no limit as far as design. Moreover, when it comes to deciding upon the perfect stairway, I can truly understand if one’s mind becomes blank. Do the research and make sure that when focusing on a significant architectural detail such as this, the result is what you have envisioned for your home because once in place it will become the ultimate architectural area.

Design Tip: The surrounding space within or around the stairway area should give way to either contrasting walls, unique decorative objects, and furnishings, as well as lighting, which will be the dominance behind lighting such an important detail.

Safety Tip: When incorporating the perfect stairway within your home, all safety precautions should be in place, such as ample lighting, along with effortless maneuvering.
