Accent pillows are one of my many weaknesses when it comes to decorative accents, especially if it is over-the-top, OMG – this is where I become extremely excited! Therefore, I refuse to live without them tossed throughout my surroundings. I need them thrown everywhere, and I mean everywhere! And not to mention displaying a variety of different colors, patterns, shapes, and sizes, along with a mixture of textures, make it so overly exciting! With that said, since I am a casual modern chick, when you enter my home, throw those accent pillows wherever you please and have a seat and enjoy!

However, I am OCD, and since these stylish beauties can practically be anywhere, my OCD does not kick in, and I do not pitch a crazy HISSY fit. Besides, anything else would be considered inappropriately out of place. Moreover, when designing for clients, accent pillows are great for making an immediate statement, and their versatility is priceless. Also, I do suggest that more is always better when incorporating accent pillows because as stated, the mixture of different colors, patterns, shapes and sizes, and textures will make any space come alive as well as create a lovely focal point.

Design Tip: Understanding the fundamentals of mixing accent pillows is a definite must because clash is not cute, but I do like to see a touch of drama if the "clash" is unique!

The interiors below are displaying ‘more is always better’ when incorporating accent pillows.

Kimberly C. Lyons

Kimberly C. Lyons is the founder and principal interior designer of KCL-IDESIGN, LLC (Interior Design Studio). She has been slaying interiors since forever and refuses to be known as the norm when transforming spaces. With an intense passion for incorporating a wow factor to anything ordinary, Kimberly acknowledges that she is a rare breed, and enjoys splashing her signature touch throughout when designing.

However, she is incredibly obsessed with extremely bold colors, captivating art, unique decorative objects, modern architecture, and lives for going outside the box and breaking outdated design rules. The motivating words – I dare you – keeps her motivated and overcharged. Her passion for interior design comes from a deeply rooted philosophy, which is – designing from within; from the soul, and it is always about living, breathing, and loving interior design!

Besides being a crazed football chick who is also addicted to chocolate, Kimberly is a global traveler who adores modernism and is always inspired by the not so beautiful objects.

She lives accordingly by her motto: I live – breathe – love interior design.
