Finally, here is a rundown on what has transpired in my life and why I decided to take a long hiatus. As the principal interior designer and the founder of KCL-IDESIGN, LLC, I needed a moment to breathe and regroup. During this time, I did a thorough transformation while prioritizing my life and business. I had to re-evaluate and make responsible decisions that would require significant changes. Who I am as an interior designer did not change? I already knew without a shadow of a doubt that I was meant to be an over-the-top and crazy interior designer. Being the founder of an interior design studio is a bonus.

However, the challenge came more on how I was going to branch out as an interior designer and add different layers to my company's brand. In doing this, I needed to elevate both without SCREAMING, and throwing TEMPER TANTRUMS at the same time! First, I brainstormed and jotted down every single thought that was running through my brain. Prolonged or unfinished business strategies and goals, personal achievements, and personal goals, along with other factors, were organized and put in place.

Next, I created defined lists, sorting through the positives and negatives, the most important to the least important, and so forth. I was able to sift through and alleviate individual stumbling blocks that were not beneficial in both my personal and business life. Also, I added elements that would enhance both levels. Then I was able to incorporate the necessary assets that had been missing for a while in each area. The transitioning became much more manageable. Finally, during the midst of it all, I did some extensive traveling. OMG, I hopped on a plane and went to the Motherland. I went all the way across the world, and Africa greeted me with open arms.

This backless chaise lounge is a beauty. It's sleek and glamorous. I not only had to sit on this sexy piece of furniture, but I had to get a picture as well. Oh, excuse me, I meant – I had to get a picture with every piece of furniture that I came across. I am so moving to South Africa!

While eating in a stylish restaurant, I had to get a photo of this decorative ceiling. The camera did not precisely reveal the real beauty as in person, but regardless, it was beyond amazing!

It was gloomy outside on this day. However, nothing could mess up my stay at the Da Vinci Hotel and Suites located in Nelson Mandela Square.

Yes, pamper me please, and this is especially true when it deals with a dose of chocolate, along with a cozy robe.

The classic combination of black and white made a powerful statement throughout Nelson Mandela's Hotel. Each piece was the perfect complement to the other.

Here is another great combination of decorative objects featuring black and white.

This chandelier is fabulous, stylish, and a definite statement piece.

This entrance leads into the Da Vinci Hotel and Suites in Nelson Mandela Square. I would have been happy if I could have taken the gorgeous chandelier with me :(

So, while I was stuffing my face yet again, I looked up, and another fantastic decorative ceiling. I had to get a photo of this immense beauty.

Yikes, is this the end? I was starting to enjoy my trip all over again!

Africa was right for me, an eye-opener, and it was beyond amazing! I will never be able to express or describe my exact experience while in such a beautiful country. However, I can try because, at times, it was breath-taking, compelling, transcending, tranquil, serene, I felt privileged, honored, loved, along with a million and one other feelings, situations, and occurrences. It was a definite life-changer. After arriving back home in South Carolina, my transformation was complete.

Now, I see my life as an intricate puzzle with each bold piece firmly in place. Moreover, with that said, it is time for me to get back to expressing how I am overly obsessed with designing. By the way, this is only a snippet of inspiration through the eyes of an interior designer while vacationing in South Africa. There will be more to come on my extensive travels around the globe in upcoming posts. In the meantime, I will end by saying, now that I am back to blogging, here goes to the start of something extraordinarily and beyond amazing!

Kimberly C. Lyons

Kimberly C. Lyons is the founder and principal interior designer of KCL-IDESIGN, LLC (Interior Design Studio). She has been slaying interiors since forever and refuses to be known as the norm when transforming spaces. With an intense passion for incorporating a wow factor to anything ordinary, Kimberly acknowledges that she is a rare breed, and enjoys splashing her signature touch throughout when designing.

However, she is incredibly obsessed with extremely bold colors, captivating art, unique decorative objects, modern architecture, and lives for going outside the box and breaking outdated design rules. The motivating words – I dare you – keeps her motivated and overcharged. Her passion for interior design comes from a deeply rooted philosophy, which is – designing from within; from the soul, and it is always about living, breathing, and loving interior design!

Besides being a crazed football chick who is also addicted to chocolate, Kimberly is a global traveler who adores modernism and is always inspired by the not so beautiful objects.

She lives accordingly by her motto: I live – breathe – love interior design.
