DESIGN PROJECT: CREEK SHOALS RESIDENCE

In all honesty, no one will ever understand how I truly feel about color, except for my mother and father. OMG - let me break it down about my crazed obsession. I can remember as a young child being fascinated and inspired by Play Dough and Crayola Crayons, and even to this day, both can be seen displayed in my office as a reminder of the inspiration and how each had a significant influence on me as a child. The bright colors intrigued me tremendously, and even though I deal with color daily, I am always in Awe of how it can transform a room entirely. So, being obsessed with color isn’t new to me, and this is one of the main reasons why I love splashing it throughout when designing. However, when I deal with a client who might be a little intimidated with using color and seek color consulting, I an even more excited for the challenge!

Moreover, there are two crucial factors that I like to make sure a client understands when dealing with an extraordinarily bold or vibrant color. Each one is discussed in detail with the client during the color consultation.

1) Applied Color – the overall effect it will have within the room as well as other elements such as decorative objects, furniture, patterns, textures, finishes, natural and artificial light, along with other details.

2) The psychological state when it comes to each occupant.

First and foremost, one of my favorite ways that I like using color, whether bold, vibrant, or muted is by utilizing a backdrop. In doing this, each element within the room becomes a part of a solid foundation, which will complete the space and bring everything together cohesively. Second, applying color creates a more aesthetically pleasing interior. Now, here comes the fun part. As I have already mentioned earlier, when I meet a client who is afraid of using these types of colors but is willing to experiment for the first time, I am overly excited for the privileged to show them how vital having color can make any space come alive.

Design Project: Creek Shoals Residence: Subtle Accent Wall Splashed with Color

Project Goal: Client felt intimated with color but was looking to add an accent wall. We both decided on a more toned-down color that would be warm and inviting, create a contrast with the existing wall color, but would become a focal point within the room.

Project Outcome: The client was beyond pleased with how the color transformed her Sitting Room. Much so, I acquired two other design projects within her home, and both dealt with color.

There is nothing like an accent wall to pull a room together. The most massive wall, which is parallel to the windows, is used as a backdrop, which impacts the entire space. In having the fireplace as a focal point facing opposite two perfectly-styled windows with drapery hung high, this creates balance and a genuine feeling of symmetry. The addition of unique decorative objects, artwork, and an area rug was put in place to pull the space together.
