DESIGN PROJECT: PHASE 2 - THE RESERVE AT LAKE KEOWEE

When dealing with the arrangement of complex elements such as structures like commercial or residential, I have always been fascinated by their presence. I am beyond privileged to be able to have the opportunity to work on significant design projects to see the transformation from start to finish. Especially, the project that I am currently working on at The Reserve at Lake Keowee. I am excited about being the principal interior designer, and I am a part of a dynamic design team. There are no words to express my gratitude for God blessing me with a gift to do what I am passionate about, which is to design aesthetically pleasing, and functional spaces. I get a chance to splash my signature touch on the exterior as well as throughout the interior. Moreover, this project is extra special to me because the use of environmentally friendly elements throughout their house will be put in place. However, in return, this will be a tremendous benefit to both my client and her husband.

Since this is a unique design project, which is a custom built house, there are many different levels. There is so much going on from communicating with, and the list can go on for miles. Even though there are many different parts of a design project, I am enjoying every moment of the process, and this includes down to the smallest details.

The images below show the transformation that has taken place since Phase 1. There is a lot that has been completed, and I love how the details such as the dome ceiling are coming together, as well as the many windows, which will give way to ample lighting.

MY CHANDELIER OBSESSION: TWO IS BETTER THAN ONE

Regardless of the different types of lighting on the market, and there is a lot, I find myself in trouble when it comes to chandeliers because they are one of my weaknesses. It is as if I fall into a deep fixation when I enter a room because I expect to see two instead of one. However, this is only if space allows. If I only see one, then I question myself mentally, why am I not seeing another spectacular piece of jewelry hanging? Whether I am traveling national or international, my hunt for how chandeliers are used in a room is an obsession. I will say that with my travels outside of the United States, I understand why when designing most luxurious spaces, the choice is to incorporate pairing, and why it tends to be a crucial element. I often find some unique styling ideas when pairing chandeliers.

  • Two chandelier can can add symmetry.

  • With correct placement, two chandeliers can define a room from above and balance out the entire space.

  • It makes for great design, and the overall design scheme more simplified, especially when trying to combine different types of lighting.

The upside is that these beauties are unlimited as far as style, size, color, shape, texture, and finish. They can add character to any room. The downside is that the perception of two chandeliers is not for everyone. Moreover, if space allows, I promise if the time is taken to change from one and opt for two, you will thank me – Promise!

I cannot wait to do a post on designing with more than two Chandeliers.

BEDROOM DESIGN: STATEMENT WALLS

Okay, first, let me start by addressing the fact that I am a crazy chick when it comes to statement walls. Regardless of what room a statement wall is displayed, they are so needed. In my case, the bedroom especially. However, when it comes to my bedroom, not just any statement wall will do. I need a dominant backdrop that will bring the entire space cohesively together. For me, the bedroom is considered my ultimate sanctuary. Once I open the door, everything that has weighed me down throughout the day such as hectic meetings, long day with clients, finishing up never-ending paperwork, or chasing after my two spoiled brats Stitch and Ace (Boston Terriers), whatever the case may be, it is all dropped and left outside. Once I close my bedroom door behind me and breathe, I relax and become at ease. My bedroom is my serene get-a-way space. When people say, the kitchen is the heart of the home; I cannot relate because, for me, my bedroom is the heart of my house. Also, for all the people who know me, they will agree because cooking is not my passion. So yes, I am laughing hysterically right about now. He-he!!!!

Check out the statement walls below. In asking hypothetically, if today is the day to make a change and add a statement wall in your bedroom, what would you incorporate to bring your space together cohesively?

Also, remember a statement wall can be whatever your heart desire. So, get crazy creative with it!
