DESIGN PROJECT: LIVING ROOM REVAMP

At KCL-IDESIGN, LLC there is always a decorative coating about to be splashed somewhere, and yes, I am the principal interior designer who gets to splash, splash, and more splash! However, with this living room, I needed a color palette that would be statement-making, and while doing so, also create a subtle contrast. During the color consultation, I noticed that specific colors were mentioned several times throughout the conversation. My goal was to give the clients precisely what they desired, as well as envisioned. I know and understand the importance of incorporating a client’s style. So, I made sure to do precisely just that because it is always about the client.

The standing ovation goes to green and orange! Both became the chosen colors for the interior walls. “Whew, there are a billion and one swatches to choose from when dealing with greens and oranges, and yikes, I had to find the perfect one of each.” I will admit – it was beyond fun and exciting, and I was more than ready to revamp the BLAND living room! With the space being tiny and the fireplace as the focal point, the original furniture arrangement did not change. Blocking the entrance to the downstairs bedroom and kitchen was not an option. All pathways needed to stay open for easy access and maneuvering.

With both the color palette and furniture placement solidified, it was time to create an entirely different living room. The exciting part about working with limited space and an existing furniture layout is that I get my chance to make a drastic before and after. In knowing this, my creative juices kick in, and when they do, I always capture a fantastic look, feel, and vibe. The living room revamp was achieved!

She has been slaying interiors since forever and refuses to partake of what is known as the norm when transforming spaces. With an intense passion for incorporating a wow factor to anything ordinary, Kimberly acknowledges, that she is recognized as a rare breed while splashing her signature touch when designing, which is considered extremely fun and exciting! However, besides being incredibly obsessed with extreme bold colors, captivating art, unique decorative objects, modern architecture, and the motivating phrase – “I dare you,” this overcharged and crazed interior designer lives for going outside the box and is not afraid to break irrelevant design rules. Her extraordinary obsessed passion for interior design comes from a deeply rooted philosophy, which is designing from within; from the soul, and it is always about living, breathing, and loving interior design!

Kimberly is addicted to chocolate, obsessed shopaholic, laughs hysterically just because, global traveler, football-crazed chick, head-over-heels in love with modernism, and is always inspired by the not so beautiful objects.

DESIGN PROJECT: CORGI DRIVE RESIDENCE

Again, it is another bright day at KCL-IDESIGN, LLC, and as I usually say, you can’t go wrong when applying the most fantastic decorative coating in the world. So, for all the incredible people who know me, it will only take about a half of a second to scream the answer to what I am referring to, which is PAINT! However, when I talk about color, I prefer to create an accurate representation of a before and after. If a color is close to what is already on the existing walls, this will display very little difference.

While working on a design project for a client, during the initial consultation, she made it clear that color did not intimidate her. One of the main reasons that I accepted the project is because being able to enhance her home through newly designed interior walls would have a significant impact within the space. Moreover, being beyond obsessed with such a unique decorative coating makes my job so much more fun and exciting! I go insane when I know that I am going to be hanging out at my favorite paint stores. OMG, shuffling through newly stocked swatches, talking to vendors about the latest trends and eagerly contemplating on what colors I will combine is crazy fun!

Typically, when I work with color, at times, I will give the client at least three different palettes to choose from, and again, this can depend on the client and the overall design project. I have learned that having too many selections can become a bit confusing, and not having enough to explore within the desired preference can potentially become a problem as well. With that said, the client was not afraid of using anything extreme and was delighted with the final selection. So please, do not get it twisted, color is not for everyone, but OMG – it sure is beyond transcending!

Design Project: Corgi Drive Residence – Dining Room

Project Goal: Select a color that would ultimately change the look and feel of the client's existing dining room and enhance the objects within the space.

Project Outcome: The bold walls add character, as well as give way to an open and inviting atmosphere. By the way, the client was pleased with her newly designed dining room.

Inspirational Nudge: If you have never had a desire to use dramatic or dominant paint, give it a try because it will change the entire atmosphere and vibe within the space – Promise!

DESIGN PROJECT: PHASE 3 - THE RESERVE AT LAKE KEOWEE

Currently, a lot is going on at KCL-IDESIGN, LLC, but as always, I am continually grateful! However, I did come to the notion that I need to pour my heart and soul out through my posts. I see it as an avenue to share endless inspiration, whether through design, travel, personal, or business. Even though I love being an interior designer, there is so much more to me than meets the eye. Moreover, when I speak about my blessings, I exude extreme gratitude on how grateful and appreciative for the opportunities that are put in my path daily.

Also, I love the meaning behind the word gratitude, which states “the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness.” So, with having a creative mindset, it is only fair that I share with the world the fantastic experiences that I continually receive from the Greatest Designer Ever – God! With that said, one of the most significant projects of my career, which is The Reserve at Lake Keowee, has kelp me on my toes. Recently, I was on site, and everything is coming together beautifully.

It is funny because, with this design project, I have made a lot of the final decisions, God knows that I have learned a thing or two about patience. Designing a custom-built home is on an entirely different level, which takes extreme patience. During this walk-through, as the client and I are going through different areas of the house to see the completed work, I am in total awe at the custom stairs (Photo 5). The bull-nosed tread resembles the bottom of an elegant evening gown flowing with a long-flared trail.
