SIMPLE ROOM DESIGN: MODERNIZED POWDER ROOM

It took me a long time to figure out if I should even share this design project. I prefer to show the overall transformation of before and after, but due to losing pictures that I didn’t save for this project will require unique skills of being able to visualize, which will genuinely help while viewing this post. With that said, as a designer, one of the main assets that I try to pass along is to always inspire through my design. One of my obsessions, which continually fuels my passion for designing, and that is using color. To show or visualize what a lifeless room looks like before, and how when dealing with a variety of colors, the after picture will not only be inspiring but a powerful transcending tool to help motivate someone afraid of using color to jump-start their long-awaited projects.

However, for a moment, imagine a completely white room with only a sink, toilet, and a little bland, cheap square mirror that are typically in a newly built house. Moreover, nothing was exciting at all within this space, and it lacked character, interest, style, and appeal.

Design Project: Appleton Lane Residence – Modernized Powder Room

Project Goal: Incorporate the perfect color palette, but to show that modern design is even more beautiful when there is a host of colors competing for attention.

Project Outcome: Modern approach with a simple, and classic appeal.

Five colors are featured, but there are six. I incorporated black paint that was left over from another project. It was added to create depth and give weight to the overall color palette. During the painting process, a drip technique was used to create a textured effect. Details of white and black were used to create a subtle contrast against the colorful backdrop. Also, the decor, which was intended to be simple, can be slightly seen with the chrome magazine rack below, along with the curly decorative branches.

Kimberly C. Lyons

Kimberly C. Lyons is the founding owner of KCL-IDESIGN, LLC (Interior Design Studio), and the Principal Designer. She has been slaying interiors since forever and refuses to partake of what is known as the norm when transforming spaces. With an intense passion for incorporating a wow factor to anything ordinary, Kimberly acknowledges, that she is recognized as a rare breed while splashing her signature touch when designing, which is considered extremely fun and exciting! However, besides being incredibly obsessed with extreme bold colors, captivating art, unique decorative objects, modern architecture, and the motivating phrase – “I dare you,” this overcharged and crazed interior designer lives for going outside the box and is not afraid to break irrelevant design rules. Her extraordinary obsessed passion for interior design comes from a deeply rooted philosophy, which is designing from within; from the soul, and it is always about living, breathing, and loving interior design!

Kimberly is addicted to chocolate, obsessed shopaholic, laughs hysterically just because, global traveler, football-crazed chick, head-over-heels in love with modernism, and is always inspired by the not so beautiful objects.

Lives accordingly by her motto: I live – breathe – love interior design.
