KCL-IDESIGN, LLC Philosophy: As a designer, I have many views when it comes to philosophy, but the one that I cherish the most is ‘Having a deep understanding that the not so beautiful objects or spaces can become reinvented by way of an individual with a creative soul’ – Kimberly C. Lyons

When it comes to reinventing furniture, I have a creative soul, and once my creative juices start to flow, the possibilities are beyond endless. With that said, I never take my gift for granted, which is from the Original and First Designer himself – God, whom I do know and understand designed everything. Yes, EVERYTHING! I must thank him daily for giving me an unsurpassable gift that I continually use to not only transform spaces but to transform whatever comes in my path. Also, even though my job is to create and design beautiful spaces that can change people’s lives, I do understand that the not so beautiful objects can be reinvented to show that regardless of time, which can bring drastic change, but also to acknowledge that the outward appearance can become renewed again.

‘Run-down, old, and unsightly furnishings or decorative objects that were once new, yes, the pieces that are often forgotten, I am always inspired and honored to reinvent’ - Kimberly C. Lyons

However, the bottom line is, there is nothing like a little love and tender care. So, when I came across this accent chair, which I know at some point was once sitting stylish and taking center stage somewhere, I became determined to do a complete face-lift. Moreover, from first sight, I felt that it was my duty to give new life and change the overall appearance. The transformation came by way of a subtle decorative coating and dominant fabric that would give way to a completely different look.

1.    Yikes, I found the perfect paint (decorative coating) and fabric. It was so fun and exciting!

2. Dismantled and thoroughly cleaned

3.    Re-tightened Chair Frame

4.    Recovered Worn-out Seat

5.    Transformation complete!

Design Tip: Get creative when choosing the perfect paint color/finish. The Reinvented Accent Chair was a project done for The Habitat for Humanity Restore, and therefore I used a decorative coating that was mixed wrong from a local paint store and donated.

Woohoo! My overall goal was to change all the characteristics of the chair and make sure that the contrast was subtle but gave way to a definite wow factor. I think I achieved what I set out to accomplish, and the result is beyond amazing!

MBD (Mood Board Drama) featuring a Modernistic Vibe. . .

Woohoo, it is Friday, and I am beyond excited about this weekend! OMG, or should I say that I am exceptionally overly excited because I will be preparing for several upcoming interior shoots, which were designed by me, myself, and I. It is so fun and exciting to see the result of a design project once it is finally complete. Moreover, I can’t wait to post the details on what transpired during the overall design process.

With that said, when it comes to Modern Design (Modernistic), I am always crushing this vibe. I like to add several bold colors because I don’t believe in sterile rooms. Nope, that’s not my style. As seen in this interior, the red and yellow create the perfect contrast against the dark backdrop, which creates a fabulous focal point. Red has always been my first love when dealing with color, and yellow is my second love. When combined, boy do they stand out and give way to a dominate wow factor!

Design Tip: Modern, Modernism or Modernistic is about clean, crisp lines, along with the use of materials such as metal, glass, and steel. However, it is considered a dramatic style and requires a statement. Therefore, this is where incorporating the perfect color palette. It can be simple, yet bold.

Kimberly C. Lyons

Principal Interior Designer and founding owner of KCL-IDESIGN, LLC (Interior Design Company), Kimberly has been slaying interiors since forever. She refuses to partake of what is known as ordinary when it comes to designing interior or exterior spaces. Kimberly already acknowledges that she is considered a rare breed when it comes to splashing her signature touch within a space. She loves designing fabulous interiors & exteriors. She is obsessed with super bold color, the phrase I dare you, and lives for going outside the box when creating a unique and powerful wow factor. Kimberly is definitely not afraid to break some major design rules!

Yikes, it is another colorful day at KCL-IDESIGN, LLC, and as I usually say, you can’t go wrong when applying the most fantastic decorative coating in the world. So, for all the amazing people who know me, it will only take about a half of a second to scream the answer, which is PAINT! Now, when I say use a color that will change the entire atmosphere and vibe in a room, I am not referring to a color that is close to what is already on the existing walls, which will display very little difference. I am talking about an immediate and drastic change. With that said, let me dive right in and show what I mean when I speak about using bright, bold, vibrant or what I refer to as a dramatic and dominant.

While working on a design project for a client, during the initial consultation, she made it clear that color did not intimidate her. Moreover, this was one of the main reasons for redesigning her home. I am always extremely honored when it comes to transforming spaces to have an entirely different look. Also, being beyond obsessed with such a unique decorative coating such as paint makes my job so much more rewarding! And not only that, OMG, I go insane when I know that I am going to be hanging out at my favorite paint stores, shuffling through newly stocked swatches, talking to vendors on the latest trends, and eagerly contemplating on what unique color palettes I will create.

Typically, when I am working with color, I will sometimes give the client at least three palettes to choose from, and again, this can depend on the client(s) and the overall design project. I have learned that having too many selections can become a bit confusing and not having enough to explore within the desired preference can potentially become a problem as well. With this client, who was not afraid of using anything extreme, was delighted with the final selection. So please, do not get it twisted, color is not for everyone, but OMG, it sure is beyond transcending!
